Welcome to Children's Mental Health Services
About our Mental Health Services
For more than 45 years, Lutherwood has been providing mental health services to Waterloo Region and Wellington County. Today, Lutherwood provides a range of services to assist children, youth and their families coping with mental health challenges. We provide residential treatment and assessment services, family crisis and prevention counselling, and community and school-based interventions. We also operate Safe Haven Youth Services and provide supervised access services for parents.
We also offer a number of resources including our blog with tips and strategies for parents and public events to build an awareness and understanding of children's mental health.
For parents and professionals wanting to support a child or youth experiencing mental health, emotional or behavioural challenges, Front Door is the first place to go for information and assistance.

Tips for Helping your Child when they Refuse Help
Being depressed causes us to feel tired, unmotivated, foggy-headed, and hopeless that things will get better. Often, we need someone outside of ourselves to help us navigate our way out of the “fog.” Getting help for depression can be a difficult task at any age. But what happens when the depressed person is your child and they are refusing help?
Nutrition and Mental Health
What we eat affects how we feel, not only physically, but mentally as well. In fact, making healthy eating choices is linked to improved mood, higher energy levels, and clearer thinking. Food is the fuel that our bodies run on – like gas to a car, we need it to function!
New Year's Resolutions
The concept of ‘bettering’ ourselves is a great one, as we should never stop trying to be our best self. However, it should be a continuous goal that we strive for, rather than something that has a deadline based on a calendar change.
