Summer is almost here! With the school year coming to end, you may be wondering if it’s too late to find a summer job. The good news is it’s not too late. There are still opportunities out there. If you are a student looking for summer employment, here are some easy last minute job search tips:

1. Check online job boards regularly: Now that summer is here, more students (like you!) will be searching online for last minute summer jobs. Make sure to frequently check for job postings on job boards such as Indeed.com, Jobboard.lutherwood.ca, jobbank.gc.ca, WowJobs.ca, and KWCareers.ca.  Local governments also hire a lot of students, so make sure to check the Region of Waterloo and all three city websites.

2. Apply to jobs that interest you, even if they are entry level or don’t pay as well: If there is a job posting that looks interesting to you and would help you develop your skills and gain more experience to add on your resume, don’t overlook it because it is entry level or pays less than other employers. If this position will help you in your future career, it will be worth it in the long run!

3. Use your connections: Believe it or not, there is a whole world of jobs out there that don’t get publicly advertised. These are the jobs that usually go to family members or friends of employees already working for a company. Networking is the most effective way to find employment so make sure to ask around to your friends, family, family friends and teachers if they know anyone looking to hire a summer student.

4. Take advantage of the youth-targeted programs and workshops at Lutherwood: Don’t be afraid to ask for extra help! The staff at Lutherwood would be more than happy to assist you in your job search and even introduce you to employers. Here are some upcoming workshops and programs that can help:
