On Sunday, May 1st, over 600 friends stepped up against the stigma and gave hope and support to children who struggle with their mental health. It was an inspiring and fun-filled day, raising an incredible $127,000.

Participants enjoyed a walk through the beautiful countryside surrounding Lutherwood’s Benjamin Road location. Everyone, including pets, got to dress up in bright yellow buffs and show their support for children’s mental health.

Bringing the community together for this important cause gave people the opportunity to share how mental health has touched their lives. Their stories were inspiring, powerful and although many were heartbreaking, they all gleamed of hope.

One example was the powerful story from former Miss Oktoberfest, Tara Hebblethwaite, who opened up about her struggles with mental health which led her to volunteer at Lutherwood. Teaching art classes to our youth, she aims to build their confidence and ensure them that they are not defined by their mental health.

Through all of our stories, we shared a sense of care and spread the message that no one should be afraid to seek help and no one should have to suffer alone.

We are overwhelmed by the support Steps for Kids has received this year from our participants, sponsors, donors and the community. We want to thank you for continuously supporting children’s mental health and the work done by our amazing staff at Lutherwood.

All funds raised support Lutherwood’s therapeutic programs, which allow children to get the treatment they need so that they can continue to develop skills, strategies and confidence while they discover their potential in a safe place.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, May 7th, 2017 for our next Steps for Kids!
