Older Worker Employment Program Funding Renewed

Waterloo – Lutherwood announced today that its successful Targeted Initiatives for Older Workers (TIOW) program has received renewed funding. TIOW – a joint federal-provincial initiative – provides unemployed workers aged 55 to 64 with support finding employment. Eligible participants receive skills upgrading, financial support for training and associated costs, and placements with local employers.

With the funding contract for this program now renewed, Lutherwood is again accepting applications. “We are thrilled that the government saw the value and success of this program in their decision to renew their funding,” said Sherri McDermid, Program Manager at Lutherwood. “TIOW is an excellent fit for older workers as it is designed specifically for their unique needs.”

TIOW was created in response to the economic downturn and its impact on older workers. Many older workers have little job searching experience as they have held the same job or been in the same company for years. Also, with technologies and skill requirements changing, many lack the formal training required by today’s employers. TIOW helps get these individuals back into the workforce. Last year, Lutherwood’s TIOW program helped more than 100 participants return to work.
