Upopolis

Upopolis™ is a private social community that safely connects youth to their family, community and school network while in care, and eases the eventual transition back into the community. Upopolis™ helps alleviate kids’ stress, isolation and loneliness while in mental health treatment at Lutherwood.

Upopolis™ at Lutherwood

Upopolis™ is available for clients in day, residential, and youth justice treatment programs at Benjamin Road. It was launched at Lutherwood in October 2009. Youth can directly access Upopolis™ via a private wireless network on Toshiba laptops in the classrooms and residences of Benjamin Road.

With a secure Upopolis™ account, youth are able to:

  • Stay connected with family, friends, and other community supports using email, instant message chat, and electronic gifts
  • Share experiences through a personal blog and photos
  • Connect with community schools to receive and respond to course work
  • Read exclusive youth-friendly mental health information and learn about diagnoses and medication
  • Obtain information and help about employment and career options
  • Stay up to date about Lutherwood events and information
  • And much more!

About Upopolis™

Upopolis™ was developed by Kids’ Health Links Foundation in partnership with TELUS and McMaster Children’s Hospital for kids in hospitals to stay connected while in medical care. This innovative program has been further developed by Kids’ Health Links Foundation, TELUS, and Lutherwood to be the first of its kind in Canada for use by children and youth in mental health services.
