Lutherwood Family Counselling Services (LFCS) includes students from a variety of programmes: social work, psychology, pastoral counselling and marriage and family therapy. Presently LFCS has Practicum agreements with the following Institutions: University of Guelph, University of Lethbridge, Tyndale University and seminary, University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University – Faculty of Social Work and Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. 

Placements

Practicum and internship placements provide learning opportunities in a supportive and encouraging environment. Each student is assigned an experienced clinical mentor who offers orientation and practical, hands-on demonstration of treatment tasks. In addition to on-site weekly supervision, the program provides biweekly peer supervision involving both experienced clinicians and interns. Methods of supervision include reflecting teams, two-way mirror, video and audio recordings.

Students are oriented and welcomed as part of the Lutherwood volunteer program learn about the agency, our work, clients and treatment philosophy. Students participate in Mental Health Services training events, such as: training and certification in the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS), de-escalation strategies, Suicide Prevention & Intervention training, best practices and emergency procedures.

Placements include:

• Individual, couple, family and group counselling with Cambridge and North Dumfries residents from our Cambridge location
• School-based Counselling at 5 public high schools, the Argus Residence for Young People and a Cambridge area public school (Cambridge)
• Supportive counselling and pastoral care for seniors through Informal visits and co-facilitation of groups at Luther Village on the Park and the Sunshine Center (Waterloo)
