
The Rent Bank Program can assist tenants who have short- term rental arrears due to an emergency or other unforeseen circumstance and are facing eviction for non-payment of rent. The tenant can apply to the Rent Bank Program to receive financial assistance providing the tenant meets current eligibility requirements. Arrears will be paid directly to the landlord on the tenant’s behalf.

One tool that can be used to prevent eviction is the Rent Bank Program which does the following:
- Provides financial assistance in the form of interest-free loans to individuals, couples and families with children who are experiencing financial difficulties that are leading to eviction or difficulty in securing housing
- Eligibility criteria must be met before a loan can be issued
- Tenants may access up to two month’s rental arrears
Loan repayment
- All loans are provided interest free
- Repayment schedule will take into consideration the tenant’s current budget
