What makes the program successful?
FIT is successful as we offer intensive, customized support to you
-
Frequent Service Contact – FIT worker meets with clients at least once per week.
Assertive Community Outreach – FIT worker can go outside the office to meet with you in your home or other community locations.
-
Lower Number of Clients – In order to provide intensive service, staff works with a total of 20 families at a time.
-
Flexible Admission Requirements – If you are struggling with looking for new housing, we can help, no matter what your situation!
-
FIT Transitional Houses – We have 5 temporary houses in which we can place families while we offer support to find more permanent housing. Families must be in receipt of Ontario Works to be eligible for transitional housing.
How can we help you find housing?
There are several services we offer to help you find housing:
-
Assess your current situation – staff will look at your present housing situation and see if it is suitable. If it is, we will work with your landlord to see if we can help you stay in your home.
-
Connect with Landlords to secure new housing – We will call landlords, look for vacancies and link you with landlords who are looking for tenants.
-
Help with Eviction Prevention – We will help you through the eviction process and connect you to the right people should you be facing eviction. We will also work with landlords to see if we can save your tenancy, if feasible.
-
Provide Resources to Help You Get Connected in the Community – We can help you with referrals to various agencies that you may want or need support from. These could include counselling, food supports, education, employment, medical, income, transportation, recreation and many other referral sources.
