Friday, April 8, 2011 was the day we had been waiting for!
Lutherwood was the proud recipient of a cheque for $290,000, the proceeds from the 2010 Kitchener-Conestoga Dream Home Lottery. Bud Norman, John Colangeli and Donna Buchan were pleased to accept the cheque from Paul Reitzel, Chair of the Dream Home project. We will be naming the Atrium in the new building at Benjamin Road in honour of this gift. We are now at 75% of our fundraising goal for the building!
A celebration was hosted in the gym at Benjamin with almost 100 guests present. Rotarians and the tradesfolk who contributed to the Dream Home got to see first hand where their donation is going. Guests enjoyed a slide show of the construction project over the past year and a tour of the new facility. As well, a very special presentation was prepared by some of the children at Benjamin Road who told their story of living through this project.
From September to December 2010, Lutherwood staff and Board Members volunteered at the Dream Home and sold tickets in the community. We are thrilled to report that we set a record for the most tickets ever sold by a Dream Home lottery recipient, with 427 tickets sold!
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club for choosing Lutherwood as the recipient of the 2010 Dream Home lottery proceeds, and for showing such an interest in our organization and the work we do! With the decision to support Transformation Benjamin Road, they have changed lives!
