This program, delivered by Lutherwood on behalf of the Region of Waterloo, is designed to assist Ontario Works recipients to launch and grow small businesses.

About the program

Training is provided through interactive workshops focused on development of a functional business operating plan.  Topics include:

• Market Research
• Marketing and Sales
• Business Organization / Rules and Regulations
• Small Business Financials
• Once the training is completed, individual assistance is available from the Business Advisor as participants proceed to launch their venture.

Other benefits of the program include:

• Exemption from job search so more time can be devoted to business development
• Income, expense and asset exemptions
• The program also offers assistance with expenses such as:
• Business start up costs (up to $253 annually)
• Transportation ($60 per month for the first 3 months)
• Childcare 

You are eligible to apply to this free program if you: 

• Are in receipt of Ontario Works benefits
• Present a sound business idea and demonstrate that you have the skills, qualifications, experience and commitment to make it work
• Want to start a new business or take over an existing one
• Can work full-time in your business
