Second Career is a government-funded retraining program that helps laid off, unemployed or underemployed individuals get employment in skilled occupations that are in demand in Ontario.

Eligibility
- Have been laid off on or after January 1, 2005
- Are unemployed or working in a 'survival' job
- Are interested in going back to school for an occupation that is in demand in Ontario
Other Factors
- Length of time actively job searching
- Length of time unemployed
- Highest level of education
- Type of training you are interested in
- Type of work you are trained for
- Past work experience
- Current financial situation
Allowable Training
Second Career funds training that will support individuals looking for work in high demand occupations in Ontario. The training:
- can be up to two years in length
- can be occupation-specific
- can be academic upgrading or language training if part of a specific skills training program
- must be college-level training
- can be full-time or part-time (additional criteria apply if part-time)
Some restrictions apply.
Costs
Second Career funding may cover the costs of tuition, books, living expenses and other costs associated with the training up to a maximum of $28,000.
