Excerpt from the KWCF News Release:

The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation (KWCF) awarded almost $607,000 in grants during 2009 to support local non profit and charitable organizations in Kitchener-Waterloo and area. Lutherwood gratefully received one such grant for the improvement of restroom facilities at Safe Haven Shelter – a program that provides support to children aged 12-15 who are at risk of homelessness. “In order for us to maintain our license as a children’s residence, the bathrooms needed significant upgrades to meet health, safety, and accessibility requirements,” says Donna Buchan, Director of Development at Lutherwood. “Fixing up old bathrooms is a project in which many funders would not be interested. However, the grant has helped address basic needs for safety and shelter for troubled children in our community and we are so fortunate that The KWCF values its importance.”
