Lutherwood offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities across the organization.
Volunteering at Mental Health Services
Lutherwood’s Mental Health Services has opportunities for volunteers in the Residential Programs and Day Treatment Programs at Benjamin Road. Volunteers and students work directly with the youth, under the supervision of staff, in educational, recreational or social situations. Volunteers may assist in the classroom, assist and/or participate in group or recreation activities, accompany youth in the community, tutor or mentor the youth. Volunteers interested in working with troubled adolescents and/or interested in the field of social work, child and youth work or teaching would be a good fit for this position.
Volunteers may also be interested in working with youth at The Betty Thompson Youth Centre or Safe Haven Shelter in either the residential or non-residential programs in a similar role.
Child and Parent Place is a supervised access and exchange program for families experiencing separation and divorce. The emphasis of the program is to create a safe, neutral and supportive environment that is child-centered and eases the transition from family member to family member. Volunteers assist the Family Worker in supervising exchanges and visits. Volunteers provide support to parents visiting with their children, encourage interaction between parents and their children, provide feedback about families’ visits to the Family Worker and record information concerning visits and exchanges. This is a good opportunity for volunteers interested in future work with children and families, teaching, social work or legal fields. Opportunities with CAPP are available in Kitchener, Cambridge and Guelph.
Volunteering at Employment Services
Lutherwood’s Employment Services have volunteer positions available in Kitchener, Cambridge and Guelph. Lutherwood is a leader in the field of employment and self- employment programming in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. Lutherwood offers a wide range of programs designed to help people find and maintain new jobs or start small businesses. Volunteers and students provide direct support for Staff and program participants. This is a good opportunity for volunteers interested in an administrative position or the Career Development Practitioner course.
Volunteering at Senior Services
Volunteers are also important in Seniors’ Services at Luther Village on the Park. Volunteers are needed to support our Enhanced Care and Assisted Living Residents through social interaction and involvement in planned activities. Activities and Events Volunteers assist in recreation activities such as Bingo, Scrabble or Coffee Hour, escort residents to programs on site or accompany staff and residents on outings in the community.
Friendly visitors spend quality time socializing with residents that need the social contact. Some volunteers choose to do a bit of both. If you have an interest in gerontology or therapeutic recreation as future work Luther Village on the Park would be a great place to gain some experience. If you enjoy spending time with seniors we would love to hear from you.
